G2 take down mousesports; secure IEM Katowice playoffs spot

After letting go a huge advantage on the opening map, Dust2, G2 bounced back with confident victories on Inferno and Nuke to take the series victory over MOUZ, 2-1.

The two sides were playing for a spot in the playoffs in the upper bracket semi-final of Group B after handling underdogs 100 Thieves and TYLOO in their respective opening matches. In this series, #8 in the world G2 managed to secure the upset over the second-best team, in a fairly convincing fashion.

nexa's men continue their strong run

Kicking things off on Dust2, MOUZ picked up the pistol and the followup to earn a 2-0 lead before G2 afforded a buy. Getting the AWP into Kenny "⁠kennyS⁠" Schrub' hands resulted in an opening pick in the round and started G2 streak of dominance on the offensive side of their map pick. François "⁠amanek⁠" Delaunay, Audric "⁠JACKZ⁠" Jug, and Nemanja "⁠huNter-⁠" Kovač all chipped in and reached 10+ frags in the first half as G2 went on an 11-round streak.

Chris "⁠chrisJ⁠" de Jong's Deagle double set up MOUZ to win their third (11-3), but that was all they mustered for the CT half. With a B rush, Finn "⁠karrigan⁠" Andersen and co. grabbed the second pistol victory and started an unlikely comeback. Dictating the pace of the game and keeping G2's money low, MOUZ went on an 11-round streak themselves to get into the lead (14-12).

A force-buy worked for Nemanja "⁠nexa⁠" Isaković's team to keep their opponents off of map point momentarily, but they faltered shortly, 16-13, and the action moved to Inferno.

chrisJ had high-impact rounds throughout the series

kennyS managed a pistol-round clutch on the CT side of Inferno, but that didn't amount to early success for G2 as David "⁠frozen⁠" Čerňanský's quad kill in a 2v5 earned MOUZ the second-round force-buy victory. G2 were trailing 5-1 before they managed their first rifle round win, which again came down to a 1v1.

That round was the catalyst for the French-Serbian team to bounce back on the defense as they tied together the rest of the rounds in the half. kennyS played a huge part in that, going 4:0 in opening duels and eventually finishing the half with 17K-5D as his team was sitting on a 10-5 lead going onto the T side.

G2 easily broke into the B bombsite on the pistol and continued chaining rounds together as MOUZ provided little to no resistance. karrigan's triple stopped G2's round streak at 14, but they converted the map victory soon, 16-6.

Aside from the T-side comeback on Dust2, mouz were outclassed by G2

The first four rounds of Nuke went the way of G2, who were successful on the offensive side, before chrisJ's aggresive play on a low-buy got MOUZ on the board. After the European side tied the score at 5-5, G2 secured a round with an A site hit and pulled back ahead to finish the half with an 9-6 lead.

huNter- stepped up massively in the CT pistol, securing three entry kills to extend his team's lead and put them on the verge of series victory. It was again chrisJ's opening that netted MOUZ their first on the offense, but the rest of the half was bleak from the European side and G2 easily closed out the map 16-7 and took the series 2-1.
